Identical Twin Boys

IMG_9213ed

Someone recently asked me how I was doing, and I responded with, “Four kids are keeping me busy!” They gave me a strange look and our conversation went a little like this.

“Really?”
”Yeah, it’s been a little bit of an adjustment.”
”Huh, does it really seem like four kids?”
”Uh… (I didn’t know how to answer) Yes?”
”Hmmm… I’d think it would be more like three.”
”Three? Why?”
”Because you have twins, they’re the same age.”
”HAHA!”

A surprised laugh escaped my mouth and I replied while grinning,

“Having twins makes it more like having eight! We call them seek and destroy, because they literally destroy EVERYTHING when I’m not looking. I’m breastfeeding, and it takes up most of my day, and the twins take full advantage of every minute I’m strapped to the couch! My newborn hasn’t been the challenge, but my three year olds have!”

The person was genuinely surprised. And I left chuckling to myself.

Cannon and Cruiz have recently kept us on our toes. When two little minds think so much alike and take on the world together, they sure do know how to leave their mark. Good thing we love them so much, because they will without a doubt leave us with gray hair. But I honestly can’t wait to see what these two accomplish, together, and separately.

We love you boys.
Life is nothing short of an adventure with the two of you.

I have a twin brother, so clearly not identical. Though people would often ask us if we were. But my mom tells stories of how we would run in opposite directions every time she was busy, like on the phone. We got into plenty of trouble. 2 or more kids of the same age is a handful.

I've heard so many stories of people asking if boy/girl twins are identical, which is so crazy!! I wonder what they think identical means? Haha But yes, running in two different directions sounds very familiar. :)

That's the funniest and strangest comment I've ever heard! They are still two separate kids, and two the same age is double the work! I have 3 month old twins and a six year old. I don't know how you do it, my six year old is in full day kindergarten so that helps, that would be challenging to juggle a newborn and two 3 year olds all day!

As a parent of twins and another 13 months later I totally agree. Just because they are twins they are up to their own action. And Ashley, FYI it does get better. Promise!

Those two boys are such handsome guys. They are getting so big. I like your sentence that you can't wait to see what they accomplish. I think little kids under the age of 5 are some of the most interesting people in the world. Their little minds are just churning, thinking of what to do next. They are such a bundle of energy and keep parents on their toes. I know they bring you joy (and frustration) but in the future, they will continue to surprise you and continue to bring you lots of joy. Your family is darling and I enjoy the updates.

My twin boys are 15 months (that is how I found your blog in the first place, googling twin mom blogs while pregnant and terrified ;-) ). They totally destroy everything already. I really think that will last until they are what, 18??????? :)

People say some crazy things! I have a 4 year old (1/12), 3 year old (1/30) and almost 2 year old (3/4) at home during the day and a 7.5 and 6.5 year old in school. My 4 and 3 year old are like your twins: partners in crime and always up to something. Now that their brother is older, he's usually in on the action, too!

Hi, we're the Sullengers! Life turned upside down for us in 2010 when we lost our daughter in an accidental drowning. Since then, we've documented our highs (life with all five of our kids) and our lows (struggles with grief) but amongst everthing we've experienced, we know as long as we hold on to one another we can get through anything that comes our way.
