Home Inspiration Thankful Thursday Gratitude

Gratitude

Our very first Christmas together, Pat and I received a journal from Terry, Pat’s step mom. Inside, we found a talk given by Elder Eyring on the topic of gratitude. Since then, I’ve made it a goal to read it each year.

Elder Eyring encourages individuals to write a few lines in a journal each day on how they have seen the hand of God in their life. I’ve taken the challenge seriously, and haven’t missed a day during the last 8 weeks :) I can honestly say after actively looking for ways that I have been blessed has changed my perspective on life, and left me in a grateful state just in time for Thanksgiving.

I encourage you to listen to Elder Eyring’s advice if you’re looking for a way to make a positive change in your life. {Here} is the talk.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I remember that talk, and I use to do this too…but then I got out of the habit and forgot all about it. Thanks to you, I'm starting tomorrow again.

I've also started praying the last three days, not asking for anything, but just thanking and telling Him how grateful I am for individual things. I can't believe the difference that has made. I believe Elder Bednar mentioned a talk about this - praying and only thanking.

President Eyring is very wise and what he says rings very true to me. I try to see good things in my life every day and try to recognize the Lord's hand in my life. He has placed people and circumstances, good or bad, in my life to help me grow and to help me become a better, new person. I hope I've done that....although it is hard to go through difficult trials, those trials refine us and help us in the end to be that person we hope to become. I hope your Thanksgiving is wonderful and memorable. I think you have inspired many of us to be grateful and hopeful, rather than being sad and forgeting how lucky and blessed we are, even if life isn't perfect. Happy Thanksgiving!! A day of Gratitude!!

I have followed your story since the accident and have been inspired by you again and again. On Sunday in Sacrament Meeting, a man gave a talk about gratitude even during trials. He spoke of Preslee and the affect she has had on millions of lives even after death. He read a passage from your blog shortly after the funeral about gratitude. You could've heard a pin drop in the chapel, even the babies stopped fussing. The Spirit was so strong. Your daughter continues to touch lives everyday. I hope you know that. Much love, a friend in Wyoming.

Thank you for sharing. That was really nice of you to take the time to do so. It almost always makes me emotional to hear how Preslee's story is still influencing others, and it's been quite awhile since we've heard something like this.

Hi, we're the Sullengers! Life turned upside down for us in 2010 when we lost our daughter in an accidental drowning. Since then, we've documented our highs (life with all five of our kids) and our lows (struggles with grief) but amongst everthing we've experienced, we know as long as we hold on to one another we can get through anything that comes our way.
