Councilman Sullenger

I realized I never updated on Pat running for Rigby City Council.

Pat was appointed to city council last June, and enjoyed it so much, he decided to run again in November. It was an unusual year for Rigby, there were 8 candidates running for city council, with only 4 positions open. There’s usually a lot less. I guess we were a little naïve, and were surprised when it got ugly at times, but I have to express how proud I am of Pat. He chose to stick to his beliefs, stand up for what he believed in, and never waivered, even when he knew some people wanted to hear something different. The main issue against Pat was that he was too young, only being 28, how can he have enough life experience? At the end, when some untrue things circulated around about Pat, and some of the other candidates, I was the one who wanted to retaliate, (I got a little protective) but Pat always chose the higher road and focused on the positive.

The day of the election, we anxiously watched the news as they announced the winners for each local city. When they focused on Rigby, they said Rigby is one of the only city’s around that still counts by hand… so they needed more help and a lot more time. We watched all night, and around midnight I went to bed, knowing the twins would be up soon. About 1:30 am, Pat woke me up and as loud as he could without waking the kids, “I WON! Ash, I WON!”

I couldn’t be more proud, and know Pat will continue to do a great job. Yesterday he was sworn in, and my parents watched the kids so I could go. Way to go Pat, here’s to the next 4 years!

Hi, we're the Sullengers! Life turned upside down for us in 2010 when we lost our daughter in an accidental drowning. Since then, we've documented our highs (life with all five of our kids) and our lows (struggles with grief) but amongst everthing we've experienced, we know as long as we hold on to one another we can get through anything that comes our way.
