Soulvivor

Every year, the LDS church takes girls ages 12-18 camping for four days. This year, our ward camped at Lava Hot Springs. It was most fun I've ever had at Girl's Camp, including the years I spent at camp as a girl.
Our theme was Soulvivor
Outwork, Outsmart, Outshine
The girls were split into tribes and completed different challenges and chores together.
I was surprised there was no drama, and proud of all 15 girls as they proved to be hard workers.

SNIPE HUNT!
The Girls were a little disappointed when the snipes were revealed...

Lava Hot Springs.

I think I might of had more fun than the girls, I loved the slides!

Bishop and Jeremy leaping from the platform.
(I have no idea how the Olympians dive and flip from these things)

I talked Meribeth (another leader) into jumping off the third platform with me, after convincing her, I chickened out... and she jumped without me. Don't worry, I looked down and saw the Bishop had it all on camera, so after the other two platforms jumped, I took the plunge!

Floating the river, this was a blast!

Last challenge at camp, eating crickets.

Winners!
I was shocked all the crickets were eaten and there weren't any left for me and two other leaders... Darn it!

It took a little coaxing and peer pressure for a few.

Bishop Hall finding a way to get his niece to eat a cricket.

A BIG thanks to Amber Hall for being an incredible camp director and putting it all together.

Bishop Hall and Jeremy Green for taking time off work to be there.

And my partners in crime, who stayed up with me the last night to teach the girls what Girl's Camp is all about... Pranks!

But in the end, I hope each of their testimonies were strengthened,
because mine certainly was.

I joined the church when I was 17 years old and was able to experience girls camp for one season. And loved it! We went camping, swimming, canoeing, and hiking.
When I became a YW leader it was the year our Stake decided to do the Pioneer trek. I really wanted to go, and was able to assist with the setting up of tents, cooking, and transporting supplies from one location to another. The biggest thing I was able to do was to stand in a field surrounded by corn and wheat and when the youth and leaders came by I spoke of a pioneer families trials when crossing the plains to SLC.
The youth are impressive, and like sponges. I am so excited to see them grow into wifes, mothers, Bishops and leaders.

Looks so fun. Toree hasn't been back to camp or Young Women's since we moved. It is heartbreaking, because I have Always Loved girls camp. What fun..... I love the Cricket pictures..
What lucky girls to have you all as leaders.

Thanks Ash! It wouldn't have been the same without you!! It really was my favorite year of all 8 I have done! By the way, my tailbone still hurts from the high dive. There is NO WAY I would have jumped without you and MeriBeth to get me up there. Now I can say I conquered a big fear of mine. Wish camp could have lasted longer. Remember when I got up the last morning and told all the girls that we were going to call their moms and tell them we were staying for 3 more days? The girls all cheered. Funnest. Camp. EVER!

I'm planning girls camp for our ward next year and am looking at going to lava. Can you give me any advice on specific locations in Lava? It looks like you had a ton of fun.

I'm so sorry I can't remember specifics anymore. We went to Lava, we floated the river which I'm sure any tubing company can tell you where to get in and out. We camped on a lot with a large pavilion that had fridges and a stove. It was a really nice set up. It was next to a little farm.. not sure if any of that helps!

Hi, we're the Sullengers! Life turned upside down for us in 2010 when we lost our daughter in an accidental drowning. Since then, we've documented our highs (life with all five of our kids) and our lows (struggles with grief) but amongst everthing we've experienced, we know as long as we hold on to one another we can get through anything that comes our way.
